Antique Farmer's Puzzle Quilt; Circa 1880-1900; handmade; hand quilted; 72"x76"

This is a striking Farmer's Puzzle Quilt, circa 1880-1900, that is a combination of red, black and grey fabrics that have been finely pieced and hand-quilted in diagonals. The quilting is entirely in black thread that can be seen best from the back. There is a four-sided red and black stripe border.

The back is off-white muslin while the front border has been turned to the back and hand-and-machine stitched to form the binding.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some overall fading of the fabrics, especially the black and the back muslin has multiple tan spots that do not effect and cannot be seen on the front. There are also several very old seam repairs to the front. See photos.

It is clean and soft and approximately 72 inches by 76 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen bed.
