Antique Wild Goose Chase Quilt; 1880s-1900; Hand-Stitched (80x82")

This exquisite Wild Goose Chase Quilt is from the late 1800s and has been hand-pieced in a variety of cottons in tiny (3/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch) triangle patchwork with a larger triangle designed border that spans all four sides. The hand-quilting is in tiny stitches in diamonds around the border and in diamond wreaths in the larger white spaces. The quilting is also outlines the hundreds of tiny triangles.

The back is a cream cotton while the binding is very narrow blue and white pattern that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some fabric deterioration/fabric loss in some of the triangles (see photos).

The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried. It is clean and soft and measures 80 inches by 82 inches. It comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home and is shown on a queen-size bed.
