Antique Bear Paw Quilt: Hand-Quilted; 1890s (65x80 inches)

This striking Bear Paw Quilt, circa 1890s, is really a piece of folk art. It includes mourning shirting fabrics as well as woven homespun cottons and linens and it has been entirely hand-quilted in outlines of the patchwork, in patterns of cross-hatches, diamonds and in repeating shell patterns.

The back is a dark tan homespun cotton, as is the binding which has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition, with some fraying of the binding.

This lovely quilt is clean and soft and measures 65 inches by 80 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen bed.
