Rare 1880s Victorian Crazy Quilt Table Runner with Black Lace Edging, hand-stitched, hand-embroidered and hand-fabric-painting. A beautifully chaotic patchwork of silk, satin, velvet and brocade fabrics, many from late-19th century dresses and evening garments.
It has been constructed using foundation stitching, a traditional 19th century quilt-making method in which irregular pieces of silk, satin, velvet and other fabrics are sewn onto a sturdy base cloth, as they have been here. Finally, it has been edged with black lace.
Excellent condition with some silk wear and age-related discoloration on the back. Structurally stable.
