This 1930s scrappy String Quilt is a real piece of American textile history that has been beautifully hand-quilted and pieced in a vibrant scrappy string design. The fabrics are classic Depression-era feedsack fabrics, novelty prints, florals, geometrics, plaids, and charming small-scale dress cottons from early through mid-1930s. Entirely hand quilted in soft, scalloped arcs, the stitches are tiny and evenly spaced.
The back is really exceptional with its original printed feedsacks that have pale blue farm and poultry mash branding, a highly-prized detail rarely found in this condition. The fabric on the top has been turned to the back and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent condition with some spots of red color-transfer on the back.
It is clean and soft and measures 67 inches by 79 inches. It comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home and is shown on a queen-size bed.
