  • Details
This beautiful Double Wedding Ring quilt dates to the 1930s and is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. The all-over wedding ring layout is made up of nearly 1,000 individual (and tiny) fabric segments.

The fabrics are a charming mix of Depression-era pastel cottons, including soft pinks, aquas, light blues, lavenders, small florals, and feed sack–era prints, all set against a crisp white background. The quilting is outlines of the tiny patchwork and -- in the open white patches -- in lively, circular geometric figures.

There is a three-sided modified ice-cream-cone border, while the fourth side - the top - is straight across. The back is white cotton while on all four sides of the quilt the binding has been formed by turning the front fabric to the back and hand-stitching. The cotton batting is lightweight and unsized.

Though the quilt is in overall very good condition, there are 8-12 small areas of fabric loss confined to individual patches, consistent with age and use. See photos. These areas are scattered and do not affect the structural integrity of the quilt.
