This cheerful Tulip Garden Quilt combines bold red tulips, soft green leaves, and sunny yellow latticework all against a pale blue ground. The simple repeating tulip motifs, blanket-stitched appliqué, and vivid color palette are classic quilt-making from the 1940s.
The quilt has sixteen appliquéd tulip blocks arranged within a striking yellow lattice setting on the light blue ground. Between the tulip blocks are embroidered leaf/feather motifs that reinforce the garden theme. The hand quilting is in an all over diagonal grid and the back is pale blue cotton that has been turned to the front and hand stitched to form the wide binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in very good vintage condition with one tiny seam separation (1/4 inch). See photos. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand-washed and line-dried, giving a light natural sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
