This is a coordinating pair of vintage mid-century hand-crocheted Baby Afghans, dating to the 1940s–1950s. Both feature colorful cross-stitched nursery motifs, including elephants, kangaroos, bluebirds, teddy bears, potted flowers, hearts, and the initial “B.”
They are constructed in alternating panels of textured crochet and Tunisian crochet (also known as Afghan stitch), with the nursery illustrations worked in colorful cross-stitch embroidery. Narrow openwork crocheted lace joins the vertical strips, and both blankets are finished with delicate crocheted edging.
The two afghans share the same designs, colors, construction, and monogram, although they are slightly different sizes and the individual motifs are arranged differently. They were likely made together, possibly for twins, and are being offered as a matching pair.
