Beautiful vintage chenille bedspread dating to the 1950s–1960s, featuring a large, elaborately detailed peacock with a sweeping tail of brilliant red and pink chenille accented with yellow, brown, and olive green. The peacock is surrounded by concentric bands of dense white chenille scrollwork and colorful floral garlands in bright yellow, pink, red, and green.
The bedspread has exceptionally detailed chenille work, with a wonderful combination of raised textures, intricate looping patterns, and thick, fluffy tufting. The central peacock’s elaborate tail feathers are particularly striking, with individually outlined feather motifs extending across the center of the spread.
The design is worked on a warm beige/tan cotton ground, with coordinating floral and scrollwork borders extending to the edges. The bedspread retains its generous, soft, fluffy chenille texture and vibrant colors.
