This 1880s Tree of Life Quilt has been hand-quilted in a diamond pattern so fine that the diamonds are less than 1/4 inch wide. The tiny hand-quilting also outlines the meticulous patchwork.
The back is cream-colored cotton with feedsack stamps and logos that can be seen through the cotton, The binding is tan cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in very good antique condition with a fraying binding, three small tan/darker spots (1/8 inch or less) on the front and some beginning fabric loss in the triangles that make up the trees. The quilt came with several hand-sized dark green ink stains on the front and back. While the stains in the front came out in a soak, on the back there remain some tan marks and a small area of light green that do not show through or effect the front. See photos. As explained above, there are also feedsack stamps visible on the back, which I do not consider a condition issue.
The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried. It is clean and soft and measures approximately 64 inches by 74 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
