  • Details
This Amish Single Irish Chain Quilt has been quilted with the date "1931" - see photos. It is royal blue and bright red and comes from the Collections of the American Folk Art Museum. It has been attributed to Mrs. David Weaver, possibly a member of the Old Order Amish in Holmes County, Ohio.

The hand-quilting is tiny and is in a pattern of repeating shells along the borders, in a diamond pattern in the large middle blocks, in geometric-braiding shapes in the sashing and otherwise runs in diagonals through the middle of the various squares. The piecework is very precise.

The binding is red cotton and has been hand-stitched to both sides while the back is blue muslin and the cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent condition, with no flaws noted.

It is clean, soft and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. It measures 76 inches by 87 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed.
