A rare piece of Edwardian textile history, this beautiful antique cigarette-silk quilt was made between 1905 and 1915 and features dozens of original printed silk "actress" premiums issued by early 20th century tobacco companies. Each portrait is framed with hand-stitched feather embroidery in soft peach, gold and cream.
Backed by soft silk, it is a rare surviving collection of the silk portraits that were issued as promotional premiums and saved, then later assembled into quilts, pillow tops and fancy textiles.
Excellent condition with some blue color transfer onto the back.
