This beautiful 1880s Log Cabin Quilt features classic late 19th Century fabrics and a traditional Courthouse Steps layout. The center of each block is the symbolic red hearth square surrounded by narrow hand-stitched logs. The maker used a rich mix of wool, cotton, shirtings, men's suiting, madders, double pinks, plaids, stripes and paisley prints - making it an authentic Victorian era scrap quilt. The quilt is tied rather than quilted, which is common for Log Cabin quilts made from thicker wools and suiting fabrics.

The back is a red, green and white calico print while the binding is brown cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides.

This more than 120-year-old quilt has wonderful character and a farmhouse decor look to it. It is in good antique condition with fabric separations, some fraying and fabric thinning (see photos) consistent with age and use, but is structurally strong.

The quilt is the size of a throw -- 40 inches by 56 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
