Antique 1880s Whole Cloth Chintz Quilt; hand-quilted; 81"x90"

This beautiful antique Whole Cloth Chintz Quilt features an early printed patchwork chintz, circa 1885-1900. The printed chintz showcases rich madder browns, rust reds, olive greens and floral motifs, all arranged in a geometric pattern on the printed chintz. It has been hand-quilted in outlines of the pre-printed patchwork.

The back is a charming small-scale calico print typical of the 19th Century that has been bordered on two sides by the Chintz print in a Flying Geese pattern and on the other two sides by floral chintz. The chintz back fabric has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form a very narrow binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

It is in excellent antique condition with several small spots of fabric loss - see photos - and a fraying binding.

The quilt measures 81 inches by 90 inches and comes from a smoke-free, pet free home. It is shown on a queen size bed.
