This is a 19th century Double T pattern quilt that has been hand pieced and hand quilted. The bold geometry of the Double T blocks is beautifully framed by vivid red sashing, creating a striking design. The quilt is constructed from a rich variety of original period cottons, including indigo and chambray stripes, red-and-white shirtings, and small-scale black and gray geometrics typical of the 1880–1895 era. The fabrics show the soft texture and depth that only genuine antique textiles develop over time.
Very tiny and precise hand quilting is visible throughout, with triple diagonals along the four-sided border and the sashing and in a grid pattern through the patchwork. The back is a maroon and white polka dot print that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
