A beautifully worn and authentic antique pinwheel quilt, hand pieced and hand quilted in the early 20th century, circa 1920-1930s. This quilt features classic pinwheel blocks set among plain cotton squares with a mix of indigo blues, shirting stripes, green patterns, small florals, and dotted prints. The hand-quilting is in outlines of the patchwork and in diagonals. Along the four-sided border the hand-quilting is in a unique chained-leaf pattern.
The back is white cotton while the back and front have been turned inward and hand-stitched to bind the quilt. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
While 90-95% of this quilt is in good shape and it is sturdy, it has age-related wear, including scattered thinning, fabric losses and fraying at some seams. There are also toning (tan) spots and age-related yellowing of the white fabric. For these reasons, the quilt is being sold as a cutter or crafting quilt.
