This is an antique Wedding Ring Quilt, dating to the early–mid 1930s, made during the Great Depression using a wide variety of period cotton scraps and feedsack fabrics.
The quilt features classic interlocking rings pieced from pastel pinks, mint greens, aquas, and a wonderful assortment of small florals, dots, ginghams, and novelty prints typical of the 1930s. The rings meet at green and pink four patches. The rings are set on a white cotton ground and finished with hand quilting in cross-hatches and outlines of the patchwork.
The back is white cotton while the binding is a red-and-white striped cotton that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. This is a summer-weight quilt and has no batting.
Unfortunately there is overall wear, thinning, scattered small holes, and some toning spots particularly in the white ground. See photos. Despite its wear, the visual impact is outstanding, and the fabric selection is exceptional.
