This beautiful vintage Boutonniere quilt dates to the mid 1930s to 1940s and is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. The classic Boutonniere pattern features six-pointed star motifs arranged on a grid of feedsack prints and white stars, showcasing exceptional skill and patience by its maker.
The quilt is arranged around seafoam aqua and white background with lavender, blush pink, peach, butter yellow, and red accent centers. The color palette and fabrics are quintessentially pre-WWII. Hand quilting throughout is fine and steady and is in outlines of the 1.5" by 3" diamonds and the 1-inch hexagon centers. Quilting along the four-sided seafoam/aqua border is in a cross-hatch grid.
The back is a white homespun-style cotton, typical of Depression-era quilts, as is the binding that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some age-related fading of the seafoam fabric, especially along the border.
