This striking antique Jacob’s Ladder quilt dates to the early 20th century, circa 1915–1925, and is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. Made in classic red and white cottons with a bold diagonal layout, the quilting is beautifully and expertly executed in feathers, feathered wreaths and tiny crosshatch grids. The four-sided red and white border is quilted in a twisted rope pattern and, on the narrower white stripe, a crosshatch rope pattern.
The back is white cotton while the binding - which appears to be newer and a replacement of the original -- is red cotton that has been machine stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some light age-related toning of the white fabric (see photos).
