This beautiful Old Maid's Patience or Four Sisters quilt, dates to the mid-1930s to 1940s and is a wonderful example of scrap quilting. Entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, it showcases a joyful collection of original 1930s cotton fabrics, including small-scale florals, polka dots, ginghams, and geometric “conversation” prints Nile and mint greens, Buttercup and chrome yellows, Lavender and orchid tones, Bubblegum pinks, along with Cadet and powder blues.
The hand quilting is dense and skillfully executed, with diagonal grids, diamond grids and echo-style quilting as well as in outlines of the patchwork and "waves" along the four-sided scalloped border.
The back is white cotton as is the binding which has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no condition issues noted.
