This vibrant 1990s pieced quilt top features a striking interpretation of the classic Autumn Leaf pattern and is highlighted by unique novelty fabric panels depicting historic ships, navigation compasses, explorers, and maritime scenes and appears to commemorate the 500-year anniversary of the discovery of the Americas.
The octagonal panels include nautical imagery such as sailing ships, compass roses, the Statue of Liberty, and scenes referencing early exploration. One panel includes the inscription “1492 – Discovery – 1992”.
