  • Details
This charming vintage Dresden Plate Quilt is from College View in Lincoln, Nebraska and is hand-embroidered and dated “To the Gages from Sr. Dorcas, College View 1969.” It is hand-quilted and hand-pieced, with 30 Dresden Plates and bright yellow sashing. The hand-quilting is in flowers in the open white areas, in a floral/twisted rope pattern along the two-sided (top and bottom) border, and in outlines of all of the patchwork in the body of the quilt.

The fabrics are classic 1960s prints, including playful geometrics, florals, dots, and novelty designs in pastel and bright tones—lovely examples of mid-century quilting fabrics. The overall look is light, happy, and distinctly of its era.

The back is white cotton while the binding is yellow cotton that has been machine-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

Due to condition issues, this quilt is best suited as a cutter quilt or for creative reuse, though it still displays nicely and could be repurposed in many ways.
    Condition issues include:
    • Visible wear consistent with age and use
    • 7 of the 30 Dresden Plates have minor to major fabric loss (see photos)
    • Some fading and discoloration
    • Binding shows wear and fraying
    • Light staining in several spots on front and back
