This is a delightful handmade cat quilt, created in the 1970s and featuring rows of sweet appliqué kittens, each made from a different printed fabric and each adorned with a bright bow tie. The sashing is bold green with sunny yellow cornerstones and each cat is individually hand-appliquéd and outlined with blanket stitching and given embroidered facial details.
The hand-quilting is in outlines of the cats and in outlines of the sashing. A handwritten label on the back reads: “Hand Made by Bernice Maylor Uncle Donnie’s Wife.” The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and machine-stitched to form the binding. The batting is lightweight.
The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
