This charming and unusual vintage quilt features alternating columns of Overall Sam figures and stylized flowers, all set against a crisp white ground with cheerful red dotted sashing. Dating to the late 1930s through the early 1940s, this piece reflects the optimistic, make-do spirit of the Depression and WWII era. The hand-quilting is in straight-line grids throughout the quilt.
The fabrics include classic feed sack prints, shirtings, plaids, stripes, and small-scale novelty geometrics typical of the period. Each Sam figure is dressed in a different combination of vintage cottons.
The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the wide binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
