This is a lovely vintage hand-embroidered nursery rhyme quilt, dating to the 1940s–early 1950s. Each panel is embroidered by hand, featuring iconic characters like Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue, Mary Quite Contrary, Mother Goose, and Jack and Jill, all set among cheerful flowers and winding garden paths on an off-white/cream muslin ground. The machine-quilting is in straight lines (see photos).
The quilt is backed with a coordinating striped cotton fabric in soft sage green, blue, and brown tones that has been knife-edge finished and machine sewn to form the binding. The batting appears to be lightweight flannel.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some age-related, very light toning of the muslin (see photos).
