This is a delightful embroidered crib quilt dating to the late 1930s-1940s and featuring six hand-embroidered panels of charming kittens in nursery scenes. Each block captures a moment—courtship, affection, and baby care—in colorful embroidery with a soft pink border.
The embroidery was likely worked from a period transfer pattern, a popular pastime during the Depression and wartime years. The expressive kittens are stitched in black outline with cheerful accents of red, blue, green, and yellow. The hand-quilting is in outlines of the sashing and in geometric shapes around the embroidery.
The back is a pink, yellow and white hexagon print while the quilt has been knife-edge finished and hand-stitched closed. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is sturdy and in excellent vintage condition with some overall fading, especially of the pink fabric.
