This delightful vintage quilt from the 1970s showcases a highly creative interpretation of the Sunbonnet Sue pattern, featuring dimensional, embellished appliqué Sunbonnet Sues set within a geometric lattice layout with each “Sue” uniquely dressed and posed.
The quilt features unique, textural, stuffed appliqué work, with each figure softly padded and enhanced with ruffles, trims, embroidery, and layered fabrics. It is all framed by a beautifully executed floral serpentine border, that also has stuffed appliqué flowers and vines that echo the dimensional quality of the figures. The hand-quilting is shell grids, outlines of the patchwork and applique and in a modified twisted rope pattern along the sashing and border.
The back is cream/white cotton while the binding is a tiny cotton print that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.
This lovely quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
