  • Details
This indigo and white Double Irish Chain Quilt has that crisp look that just seems to get better with age in a blue and white quilt. Dating to the late 19th century, this piece reflects the enduring popularity of the Irish Chain pattern that first emerged in the early 1800s in America and slightly before that in Ireland.

It is beautifully hand-quilted in very tiny stitches in cross-hatches through the 2-inch blue and white blocks and in a geometric "V" pattern in the open white areas. Its double indigo border goes around all four sides.

The back is white/cream cotton (identical to the cotton on the front) and the cotton from the back has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
