This cheerful vintage quilt features an all-over Steeplechase design, hand-pieced from curved quarter-circle blocks. Warm butter-yellow cotton alternates with white feedsack fabric printed with tiny yellow floral sprigs, creating a bright, sunny surface full of movement.
Made circa 1935–1945, this quilt showcases the skilled handwork of Depression-era quiltmakers. Each curved seam was pieced by hand, then finished with hand quilting that gives the quilt its wonderful antique texture and soft crinkle. The tiny hand-quilting is in petals in the body of the quilt and, along the two-sided border, in a grid of diagonals.
The back is white cotton while the binding is yellow cotton that has been machine-stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt remains in excellent vintage condition, with strong color, intact stitching, and a clean, well-cared-for appearance. The only condition issue noted is some fading of the solid yellow fabric and beginning fraying of the binding.
Size: Long Twin – approximately 66” x 94” perfect for a twin bed, daybed, guest room, or layered at the foot of a larger bed.
It has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried and is clean and soft. It comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home and is shown on a queen-size bed.
