This is a striking antique Steps to the Lighthouse Quilt dating to the late 1800s and has been beautifully pieced in classic Turkey red and indigo blue with small-scale calico motifs set against a soft white ground. The dense hand-quilting, or micro-stipple quilting, is stunning and covers the quilt tightly and evenly across the entire expanse.
The back is ivory/white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is sturdy and in very good to excellent antique condition overall with one small area where there is a small tear and exposed batting near one corner as shown in the photographs. The quilt has been soaked and freshly freshly hand-washed with fragrance-free soap and line-dried, giving a light natural sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
