This is such a beautifully done Vintage Basket of Roses Quilt made in Virginia in 1959 by Estella Brower, according to an old handwritten note that remains pinned to the quilt. The note reads, “Virginia Quilt ‘Basket of Roses’ Made 1959 by Estella D. Brower.”

The quilt is constructed in a framed medallion format with a large central appliquéd flower basket surrounded by additional floral appliqué panels. The appliqué is worked in pink, yellow, blue, turquoise and green against a white ground, with pink sashing and borders.

The quilting is dense and well executed. Much of the white ground is filled with closely spaced crosshatch grid quilting, supplemented by large feathered and flower motifs. The pink sashing and outer border are also quilted in a twisted rope pattern.

The back is white cotton while rather than binding the quilt has been finished with tiny triangles in a prairie-point edge, alternating pink and white points around the perimeter. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition - please review photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
