This striking hand-pieced and hand-quilted 1940s Variegated Hexagon Quilt is constructed almost entirely from solid and woven cottons in red, soft gray, and white, but features an unusual and visually distinctive design element: one side transitions into a coordinated navy-and-red colorway rather than continuing the gray used throughout the rest of the quilt. Rather than appearing as a random substitution, the navy section forms a deliberate vertical band that carries through the border, giving the quilt a unique asymmetrical, folk art appearance rarely seen in hexagon quilts.
Made of more than 2,000 hexagons, the quilt is also entirely hand quilted with each hexagon individually hand quilted around its outline. The back is white cotton while the binding is bright red cotton that has been handstitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition. The fabrics retain strong color, and the quilting remains well defined. Please examine the photographs as they form an important part of the description.
