Beautiful 1930s Four Tulips quilt, featuring twenty individually pieced blocks set against a wonderful seafoam/aqua green cotton. Measuring approximately 69” x 85”, this quilt has a Depression-era palette of pink, yellow, peach, blue, purple and white.
The Four Tulips blocks are arranged four across and five down, with each worked primarily in a single color, including bubblegum and watermelon pinks, chrome yellow, peach and several shades of blue are joined by two charming period prints: a purple floral and a lively red and pink small-scale floral/geometric print. The variation in the blue blocks comes from the use of different blue fabrics.
The wide aqua setting is one of the quilt’s most distinctive features, with the seafoam/mint-aqua color providing a striking background for the white blocks and saturated colors, as is particularly characteristic of quilts made during the Depression era.
The hand quilting is tiny and precise and in outlines of the patchwork as well as in interlocking circular/chain quilting. The back is white/ivory cotton while the binding is a narrow green cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand stitched to the back. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in very good vintage condition with some age-related fading/variation in colors. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
