Beautiful handmade vintage Double Wedding Ring quilt dating to the early to mid 1980s in an unusual interpretation of the classic Double Wedding Ring pattern. It is made in a warm, sophisticated palette centered around a rich rust-brown calico with pieced rings incorporating dusty blue florals, bright yellow and cream prints, pale blue, sage green and warm ochre.
This is a particularly handsome vintage Double Wedding Ring—the combination of the unusual brown ground, carefully coordinated 1980s calicos, extensive hand quilting and fully scalloped edge makes this one stand out from the more commonly seen pastel examples of the pattern.
The edge of the quilt follows the curves of the outer wedding rings to create a beautiful scalloped border around the quilt. The tiny hand quilting is beautifully done in four-petal flowers in the open brown areas and in precise outlines of the patchwork everywhere else.
The back is white cotton while the binding is the rust-brown calico cotton that has been machine stitched to the back and handstitched to the front. The batting is thin and lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition, with strong colors, intact piecing and beautifully preserved quilting. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the description.
