This is a really stunning late 19th-century Nine Patch quilt, dating to the 1890s and constructed with Nine Patch blocks in chocolate and chestnut browns, blacks, cream, ivory, muted gold and more, all set on point against a beautiful robin’s egg blue ground.

The blue fabric is made even more distinctive by its delicate meandering dark line and white dotted motif, while two narrow red printed borders frame the center and repeat again near the outer edge in a lovely contrast with the blue cotton. These color combinations are not only beautiful but indicative of the late-Victorian era.

Many of the blocks use contrasting light and dark fabrics, while others combine several different prints within a single block. The variety makes this an especially appealing example for collectors of period fabrics.

The hand quilting is in a finely stitched and dense crosshatch grid. The back is a cotton print with small black-and-white checks while the binding is a narrow red cotton print that has been handstitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight and thin.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. The fabrics remain remarkably colorful, and the robin’s egg blue ground and red borders retain strong visual impact. Please review the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
