  • Details
This a lovely late 19th-century Victorian Crazy Quilt table mat, measuring 21” x 21”, made from a colorful assortment of antique silks, velvets, satins, and patterned dress fabrics. Dating to 1880–1900, this small textile features the rich colors, varied textures, and decorative hand embroidery characteristic of Victorian crazy quilting. The mat appears to be a section cut from a larger Victorian crazy quilt.

The patchwork includes deep burgundy, navy blue, emerald green, turquoise, gold, lavender, and rose-colored fabrics, together with floral prints, paisleys, stripes, and other patterned textiles. The irregularly shaped pieces are joined with hand-embroidered feather stitching, herringbone stitching, decorative crosses, and other embroidery in contrasting threads.

The back is a turquoise and black checked sateen fabric while the mat has been knife-edge finished and handstitched closed. The mat does not appear to have any batting.
