  • Details
A beautiful antique Victorian Crazy Quilt table runner, measuring 24” x 61”, created from a larger 19th-century crazy quilt dating to 1875–1890. This exceptional piece retains the rich colors, elaborate hand embroidery, and distinctive stitching characteristic of Victorian crazy quilts.

The patchwork is silk, satin, velvet, brocade, and other period fabrics in jewel tones of burgundy, sapphire blue, turquoise, gold, pink, copper, and deep brown. Individual fabric pieces are joined with different types of decorative embroidery stitches worked in contrasting colors, including featherstitching, herringbone, cross-stitch variations, and other ornamental designs.

This piece has multiple embroidered initials scattered throughout the patchwork, all in different embroidery stitches, along with small decorative motifs and intricate individual embellishments. This is characteristic of 19th-century crazy quilting.

The runner appears to have been cut down from a Victorian crazy quilt, preserving an extensive section of the original patchwork and embroidery. It is finished with a wide, deep burgundy velvet border and has a turquoise/black plaid cotton backing.
