Antique Lotus Flower Cutter Quilt: Stipple-Quilting (76x88 inches)

This Lotus Flower Quilt is very old, circa 1850s-1870s, and has been hand-stitched and intricately hand-quilted to the point of stippling around the flowers and in outlines of the patchwork and borders. The colors of this quilt were likely greens and blues about 160 years ago, but with time and the fact that the colors are organically based - made from plants -- they have faded to tans and yellows.

The back is an off-white muslin and the binding is a tan-yellow that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in fair to good antique condition, with overall fading of the fabrics, a half-dozen old repairs to the front of the quilt, including some that have a corresponding repair to the back; extensive fraying of the binding, fabric loss and a tear along the border/binding, and some tan markings on the top. Due to this damage, this quilt is being offered as a cutter quilt. Despite this, it still feels very substantial and sturdy, most likely thanks to the stippled quilting.

The quilt measures 76 inches by 88 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
