  • Details
This is a Yellow Rose Quilt dating to the 1920s that features cheerful yellow floral appliqué motifs with green leaves set against a very heavily quilted white cotton ground. Graceful embroidered stems to the additional yellow roses can still be seen in some of the motifs. The hand-embroidery is in dense diamond grids and roses so tight together that in some places it amounts to stipple quilting.

The back is white cotton while the binding is a yellow cotton that is much newer than the rest of the quilt and appears to have replaced the original binding. It has been machine stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The back and binding are in excellent condition but unfortunately the beautiful top fabrics have experienced inexplicable and extensive fabric deterioration (see photos) such that the dense quilting is what is keeping much of the top intact and sturdy. For this reason, the quilt is being sold as a cutter or crafting quilt. Despite its condition, the quilt retains wonderful visual impact and period charm.
