The embellishments on this Princess Feather Quilt (circa 1890-1910) are unique, quirky and playful. What look like oak leaves in a tan print hang from the hand-appliqued Princess Feathers and the quilter has added jagged edged half-circles and circles to the corners, the top and bottom and in the center. The quilting is in a complex braided rope pattern along the four-sided border while diagonals and diamonds are quilted in the body of the quilt. The hand-quilting also outlines the applique.
The back is white cotton while the white cotton from the front border has been turned to the back and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition, with a minor amount of fabric loss on one of the red Princess Feathers,
It has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried and is clean and soft. The quilt is approximately 78 inches by 78 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
