Antique Old English Rose Quilt, circa 1860s-1880s, handmade; 58x76"

This is a very old and rarely found Old English Rose Quilt, circa 1860s-1880s that has been hand-appliqued and hand quilted. The hand quilting is in tiny stitches and in a pattern of tiny diamonds throughout the quilt. It is also quilted in outlines of the applique.

The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition with age-related fading of the fabrics, several tiny spots of fabric deterioration in the white fabric and a tiny black dot in the middle of the quilt that did not come out in a soak (see photos).

It has been soaked, hand-washed and line dried and it is clean and soft. The quilt measures 58 inches by 76 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
