This wonderful Double Sided Quilt, circa 1890s, is a Double-Nine-Patch with Courthouse Steps on one side, and a Scrappy Double Four-Patch Quilt pattern on the flip side. The hand-quilting is in outlines of the patchwork on the Double-Nine Patch side of the quilt. This is a delightful and precious quilt, but it is in no way sophisticated or finely crafted. The quilting is mostly straight, but some of the patchwork curves where it's probably supposed to be straight and vice versa, adding to its considerable charm.
The edges of the Double Nine Patch side have been turned to the back and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent antique condition, with some age-related fading of the fabrics.
This unique quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried and measures 68 inches by 79 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
