Antique Whirling Roses Quilt: 1890s; hand-quilted; 64"x67"

This Whirling Roses Quilt, circa 1890s, uses Turkey Reds so it is still bright and vibrant after all of these years. The hand-stitching used to attach the applique is tiny and precise. The hand-quilting is also in tiny stitches and is outlines of the applique as well as in shells and diagonal lines.

The back is white cotton as is the binding which has been machine stitched to the back and hand-stitched to the front. The cotton batting is unsized and very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some age-related fading of the fabrics and two dark tan lines next to one of the roses - see photos.

It is approximately 64 inches by 67 inches and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Pictured on a queen-size bed.
