This Floral Appliqué Quilt with quilted Center Medallion, is dated May 26, 1925 and is handmade and hand-quilted. The center medallion is finely quilted in a cross-hatch grid surrounded by quilted flowers on a vine.
The applique features a repeating stylized floral vine appliqué design, executed in vivid pink and green 1920s cottons rotating around the center medallion. The remainder of the quilting is in twisted rope patterns, double diagonals, geometric designs and flowers including along the four-sided scalloped border. The colors of the applique remain remarkably fresh and saturated for the period.
The back is white/cream cotton while the binding is very narrow pink cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent unused, unwashed condition. Pencil marks for the quilting are still visible.
