Antique Feathered Star 1900s Quilt – Bold Cheddar Orange & White Hand Quilted – 88" x 88"

This exceptional antique Feathered Star quilt dates to the turn of the 20th century, circa 1895–1910. Measuring a generous 88” x 88”, it is a striking example of skilled quiltmaking, entirely hand pieced and densely hand quilted in echo outlines of the patchwork and in a repeating flower motif.

The dramatic Feathered Star design is in vibrant cheddar orange and crisp white solids and each feather is individually pieced, demonstrating the precision and artistry of the maker. The back is white cotton while the binding has been formed by turning the four-sided cheddar/orange border to the back and hand-stitching. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.

This quilt has clearly been well cared for and remains in excellent condition for its age, with some minor, very light color transfer in one spot and some age-related tonal variation (see photos) which is not a condition issue but is the result of natural oxidation of early dyes over more than a century.
