This outstanding antique Nine-Patch quilt dates to circa 1905–1915 and is preserved in remarkable unused condition. The quilt features a warm red ground with beautifully coordinated scraps of indigo, shirting prints, calicoes, and early 20th-century dress fabrics. Each block is hand pieced and the quilting is exceptional, with cross-hatch grids, geometric flowers and intricate braided rope patterns along the four-sided border, all in black thread that is most easily seen from the back.
The back is a light mauve linen in a tiny floral pattern while the binding is blue and white cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent antique, never-used condition.
