This wonderful 1930s–1940s American patchwork quilt is pieced from a cheerful mix of feedsack prints, striped shirtings, plaids, and novelty fabrics, all framed with bold green sashing.
It is a classic utility quilt, made for everyday use during the Depression and WWII era. From the novelty prints to the feedsack-printed back, the fabrics tell a story of thrift and creativity. The hand-quilting is utilitarian, even, consistent and in repeating shells.
The back is original feed sack fabric, with faint mill stamping still visible that reads (among other things) "Purina Turkey Growena". The feedsack back has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some age-related fading of the fabrics.
