This exceptional vintage Dresden Plate quilt uses a fabric palette, print scale, and construction details characteristic of the Depression-era feedsack period with Dresden plates composed of 1930s cotton prints featuring soft pastels and small-scale florals typical of the era. Those fabrics include pale aqua, mint green, butter yellow, peach, rose, and light blue, all set against a crisp white background, a classic design choice of the 1930s that allowed pastel prints to stand out while creating a clean, cheerful overall appearance.
Each plate is hand-pieced and finished with a soft peach center while the quilt has been entirely hand quilted in outlines of the patchwork and in flowing cable motifs, all in very tiny, very precise stitching.
This wonderful quilt has been carefully preserved -- never used and never washed -- preserving the original fabric clarity, color brightness, and batting loft — a rare survival state for a quilt of this age and size.
