Signed & Dated 1948 Double Wedding Ring Quilt – Hand-Pieced Masterpiece | 74” x 86”

Quilters decades ago often signed their work in subtle and inconspicuous places - but not this quilter. This quilter here was obviously proud of her work - with good reason - and signed it "SMS" in large, embroidered letters in a center block and dated it 1948.

And while this Double Wedding Ring Quilt may be based on one of the most popular and iconic quilt patterns ever made, there is nothing routine about this quilt with its unique mix of pink, blue and yellow florals, including its unique and joyful yellow floral ground.

The back is a white/cream cotton while the binding is bright red cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with minor surface toning on the back (see photos).
