  • Details
This is a beautiful 1930s appliqué quilt, made from a period quilt kit and finished by hand during the Depression era. The quilt features classic rose floral motifs arranged in a wreath-style layout, with coordinating floral sprays and a softly scalloped edge bound in pink — a hallmark detail of 1930s appliqué design.

The fabrics include feedsack-era pinks, turquoise greens, and chrome yellow accents on a crisp white cotton ground. The appliqué work is neatly executed, and the quilt is finished with hand quilting that includes a center bouquet with tied ribbon and cascading diamond quilting in the body with a repeating shell pattern along the four-sided border.

This style of quilt was commonly sold as a mail-order or newspaper kit in the 1930s, with designs attributed to popular kit distributors like Bucilla, Mountain Mist, Colonial and Aunt Martha's. While no original paper pattern remains, the construction, colors, and layout clearly place this quilt in the circa 1933–1940 timeframe.

The back is white cotton while the binding is pink cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no condition issues noted. It has been soaked and carefully hand-washed and line-dried.
